No new content from me at phpfreaks (hopefully)
As I posted a few days ago, I was (and still am) very upset, that phpfreaks.com still aggregated my content through the feed of phpdeveloper.org. While I appreciate that phpdeveloper.org aggregates my content, I dislike the way phofreaks.com does it (with adding ads to my literal words).
Comfortable PHP editing with VIM -5-
More than a half year after my last "Comfortable PHP editing with VIM" post, I take up this series again, although I decided to let it die in January. Sadly I did not find any time by now, to extend PDV (the PHP Documentor for VIM plugin) further than it's version 1.0.1, which is available through vim.org and on my SVN. Anyway, I collected a lot of (at least for me) helpful VIM tips, which I'd like to share here:
PHP Documentor for VIM documented
Because I had a talk about how to use VIM in respect to PHP source code editing, I took the time during the week, to write some extensive documentation for PDV, the PHP Documentor plugin for VIM. Additionally, I documented my VIM file type plugin, which is also available through the SVN of PDV. Take a look at the README.txt to learn more.
Happy birthday PHP UG DO!
Today the PHP Usergroup Dortmund turns 2 years and I want to congratulate with this small post!
Looking forward to PHP Unconference 2008
The PHP Unconference 2007 was one of the most amazing events of the past year, head to head with FrOSCon. Therfore I'm pretty much looking forward to the second installment of the conference, which will take place on April 26th and 27th this year. I'm sure that again a large crowd of really nice geeks will attend and I'm especially looking forward to see many good friends there again. While we already traveled there with a good delegation of Dortmund usergroopies last year, it looks like we will be even more this year. Stay tuned for the Ruhrpott invasion, Hamburg! ;)
First experiences at university
It's true, since monday I'm a real student. Although the winter term has not officially started, yet, I have the so called O-Phase (orientation phase) this week, which helps new students to find the right way. Today is the 3rd day of my student life and I have to admit, I like it. There are so many geek people all around me, thats definitly fun.
Moving to Dortmund
Over the last weekend, I completly refurbished my ne appartment in Dortmund and on upcoming Saturday I will move there. I'm pretty much looking forward to that. Because of the bunch of preperations to do, I will not have that much time for open source stuff until April 8th.
Randomized Pi calculation
I don't know which is the most common way to calculate Pi in computer programs, but from the stochastics book a read for my recent stochastics exam, I have a randomized variation, which is quite cool I think. To show it, I implemented it in PHP:
Movie recommendation: Charlie Wilson's War
I just watched Charlie Wilson's War in cinema and can only recommend this movie to anyone out there. The plot tells the story how a US congress man covert dealings in Afghanistan in a very ironic and sarcastic way. While having some really good jokes this also gives you a good view behind the scene, how the US raised their own nowerdays enemies. I never saw a movie before that had this crazy mixture of elements: Highly politically bitchy, killingly funny and with a high-grade cast (including Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts).
Called for votes in pear-dev about Image_Text and Image_Tools
Today I send a call for votes to the pear-dev list regarding the packages Image_Text (comfortable handling of single and multiline texts in GD2 images) and Image_Tools (should become a collection of static methods, handling common image operations).
Performance tuning for Image_Text
Several features were still missing in Image_Text. While a feature and realization chat session Pierre-Alain Joye had a deeper look at the class and applied some very important tuning patches.
