PHP Conference 2004 Spring Edtion - Planning
So, folks, I'm sad to tell you, that none of my proposals for the International PHP Conference 2004 Spring Edtion has been accepted, beside the PEAR power session, which leads me to going there from 3. to 5. May this year and talking about "PEAR - Not just a fleshy poem. A deep introduction into PEAR and it's usage.".
PHP Conference 2004 Spring Edtion - PEAR Booth
As ususal there will be a PEAR exhibition boost on the International PHP Conference 2004 Spring Edition in Amsterdam. But since Lukas Smith (who usually maintained the booth) has a session and a power workshop this time, Stefan Neufeind will be responsible for it. What does not mean, that Lukas and me (and any other PEAR developer available) will not support Stefan there. As I know myself, I will be there mostly between sessions.
PHP 5 running
Finally I managed to try out PHP 5. Yeah, indeed, there are still people who did not do . I ever planned to install but never had the time to. Now it's done and I started to migrate some code (PEAR::Net_FTP). You will see some source tonight, when i stop.
Net_FTP and PHP 5
I recently tested PEAR::Net_FTP with PHP 5 which worked just fine, with a standard PHP5beta3 installation with activated ftp support. Since there are many fixes collected in CVS I will bring Net_FTP 1.4 on saturday or sunday, after a little more testing.
How to run PHP4 and PHP 5 prallel
The first 2 versions of PHP 5 had been released and even Beta 3 and the call on pear-dev had to come, until I found time to install a version of PHP 5. One of my most important requirements was to have a copy of PHP 4 and 5 running parallel on 1 maschine. Christian Stocker gave me the important advice to simple run 2 Apache instances with different config files.
PaWS 2004, UK
From the 20th to the 24th February 2004 the PaWS will take place in Manchester (UK). Davey Shafik recently announced the speakers for PaWS and Stefan Neufeinds and my proposal has been accepted. Since Lukas Smith and Pierre-Alain Joye will give sessions there, too, we asked Davey to make a PEAR exhibition booth in Manchester as we usualy have one at International PHP Conference in Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
And still more testing for PEPr...
That's what I like in OpenSource. You plan to release a product before december and the real release comes (hopefully ;) ) in january, without anyone reducing your income.
Christian Stocker had and realized a very cool idea. Following the example of Planet Gnome he built Planet PHP. Planet PHP is just the syndication of PEAR and PHP developers Weblogs, but even that is quite cool, since you get the developer's news syndicated on 1 website. I love it.
PEPr a fiery flavor.
Today Martin Jansen announced the new PEAR Package Proposal system (PEPr) as an official replacement of the common PEAR proposal process. Fropm now on, package proposals are handled comfortable through the Website.
No ticket, yet?
The first PHP and Webstandards Conference (PaWS) in Manchester/GB will open it's doors at the 24th of February (meaning 11 days left, now). A great bunch of professional and well knowen PHP developers will give you an overview on current state of the art of PHP development and it's surrounded technologies. Seize the possibility to get in direct touch with the stars of the PHP community.
Centerpoint rotation in a nutshell
A little journey into the past is contained in my new dotgeek.org tutorial. During the actual development phase of Image_Text (which I will hopefully release this evening, with some amazing new features and improvements) I fought with that pretty math related problem of rotating an image object.
