More 3D fun with PHP
Kore is again fiddling around with his PEAR package Image_3D... While implementing something new, he rendered the following "Zebra-Pig", which actually resulted from a bug. Anyway, the whole package is cool, and the pig looks quite funny! ;) Go on, Hardkore!
eZ Components 1.1 on the horizon
Yesterday we released eZ components version 1.1beta1, a first step to the next feature release of eZ components. The first release does not contain all enhancements, yet, so a 2nd beta will definitely follow. Beside that, the Template engine will be released in about a week, which is IMHO the most awaited component for 1.1. Several great enhancements are already included in 1.1beta1, like sub-select and multi-join support for the query builder in our Database component, parsing mails with the Mail component and automatic help text generation for the ConsoleTools. We also have 2 new components: File - which will provide convenience methods for dealing with files in PHP - and SystemInformation, which can be used to determine information about the underlying system, an application gets installed on.
PHPUGDO sponsered by PHP Solutions magazine
The PHP Solutions magazine is now sponsoring the PHP Usergroup Dortmund. Thanks to Dariusz Pawlowski, we are receiving some examples of each issue for free now, to be used in the user group. During our meeting yesterday, I opened the first 2 envelopes and we already got 1 example of the past 3 issues, as well as 3 examples of the current issue. The magazine examples will be hosted by Tobias Struckmeier at the eZ Systems GmbH office, so every usergroupy is free to borrow one for some days from there.
The road to eZ Platform
I remember mentioning that term in my blogs/talks/wherever, too. So, for all of you who still wonder, what the eZ platform will be, we published an article, explaining the architecture of eZ platform, how it is related to eZ components and eZ publish and what you can do with it.
Zend PHP 5 Certification
I finally added a button for being a "Zend Advisory Board Member" to my blog. I did not have the logo so far.
The PHP OO candy store
The october issue of the International PHP Magazine has been published, including "The PHP OO candy store", an article about PHP5s cool OO features and SPL. The article looks cool and I was really suprised to see that it became the cover story. :)
PHPUGDO: "3D-Rendering Algorithms"
Kore will give a session about "3D-Rendering Algorithms" on our upcoming usergroup meeting here in Dortmund, this Thursday (14th). He will go into detail of some of the algorithms used in Image_3D and introduce us to 3D rendering in general.
We found Bielefeld! Did we?
As posted before, Kore and me went to a the "Christmas Cookie Baking" event of the PHP Usergroup Bielefeld last Saturday, organized by Carola (Sammy). We were quite suprised, that we found Bielefeld so easily, although the internet told us about the great Bielefeld Conspiracy before. Anyway, we found Sammies home and had a great time with brunching and baking cookies, together with her husband and Arne from Hamburg. Afterwards we went to the Christmas Market of Hamelin, the town which is famous in Germany for its story about The Pied Piper of Hamelin. It was really a great event and I want to thank Sammy for this!
Kore going mad again: kaforkl
My friend Kore is going mad again. As usual, it has something to do with graphics... But this time in a completly different way than before: Kore created his own small programming language, which he named "kaforkl".
A GTK2 UI for PHPUnit
For my current exam phase at university, I wanted to have some tiny project where I can play around with, without caring too much, just to relax a bit in the evenings. When Kore infected me with some strange PHP-GTK virus ;) and someone mentioned on IRC, that it would be time to have a GTK UI for PHPUnit, I decided to take this one. So I played some hours with the PHP-GTK extension and voila, here we go with a first running version of a GTK driven test runner for PHPUnit.
My first book!
More than 4 month of intensive planning, writing, coding, correcting, drawing, rephrasing, more writing,... to keep it short: A huge lot of work and much more even than we expected, after so many people told us, that writing a book would be a huge lot of work. Anyway, although writing was hard beside university, normal work, conferences, girl friend, and other commitments, Kore and me managed to have the world wide first eZ Components book in the final correction phases right now! While Kore already wrote a chapter for a collaborative work, this is the first book for us 2, which we write completly on our own and for me even the first real contribution to a book overall.
At IPC2k7: WebDAV will come over you...
The new semester has right begun, which basically means that the semester vacation as it was named earlier (now the lesson free time) is over. While that meant a lot of exams and work on the book for Kore and me at first, we had time for some vacation and finally to take care about a brand new eZ Components project:
