The talk was quite crowded and I hope to also have attract some new contributors. - Database abstraction slides from IPC I just uploaded my slides from the talk Database abstraction with eZ Components. Thanks to the attendees for being so active and even borrowing me a notebook and an USB stick, since the beamer disliked my Thinkpad! :) The slides are CC by (see last slide for details). - Girl Geek Dinner right before IPC/DLW next week Next week the Dynamic Languages World conference (aka International PHP Conference Spring Edition) will be held in Karlsruhe, Germany. Nicole organized a Girl Geek Dinner right before the main events start (that means Monday evening). I really like the idea of Girl Geek Dinner, since it's a good attempt to raise the women rate on geek events, which is usually (sadly) extremly low. On the other hand I like to hang around, have some good meal, enjoy a beer and a good technical discussion. Therefore: +1 from my side for Girl Geek Dinner. :) - RoR does not scale? It's interessting to see more people abandoning Ruby on Rails. Not that I have something against Ruby itself, but it really seems to me that RoR does not scale. Hope Twitter tries with PHP. ;) - PHP @ FrOSCon: This year we are a sub-conference - Call for papers The PHP Usergroup Dortmund will again organize PHP @ FrOSCon this year. As usual this happens in cooperation with the PHP Usergroups Köln/Bonn and Hamburg. The Free and Open Source Conference 2008 is going to happen on August 23rd and 24th. Instead of the past 2 years, we'll not only have a dedicated project room. A dedicated PHP @ FrOSCon track will be a part of the FrOSCon main conference program. - Looking forward to PHP Unconference 2008 The PHP Unconference 2007 was one of the most amazing events of the past year, head to head with FrOSCon. Therfore I'm pretty much looking forward to the second installment of the conference, which will take place on April 26th and 27th this year. I'm sure that again a large crowd of really nice geeks will attend and I'm especially looking forward to see many good friends there again. While we already traveled there with a good delegation of Dortmund usergroopies last year, it looks like we will be even more this year. Stay tuned for the Ruhrpott invasion, Hamburg! ;) - eZ Components and GIT James Pic wrote a little article on how you can import the eZ Components SVN into your local GIT installation. This way you can stick to your favorite version controll system and don't need to use SVN much if you want to try out the latest features in eZ Components and use GIT as your favorite version conroll system. - Reflecting private properties I recently stumbled over reflecting private properties in PHP again. As you might know, this was not possible until now and if you tried this: - Book of the month Dynamic-Webpages just elected our eZ Components book to be the book of the month. On the website you now find a picture of the book in a very prominent place and an extensive recension (German) linked from there. Thanks to Wolfgang from Dynamic-Webpages for choosing the eZ Components book and to Sebastian for digging into it and giving a review from a well-known author. - Finally: PHPUGDO got an ElePHPant family! When my friend Marcus asked me if I'd like to order ElePHPants with him together to save shipping cost I thought it would be time that our local PHP usergroup gets some new members: The ElePHPant family! After I messed up with our original order in May 2007 (because of too much work with the book and more), I thought it would be nice to give an ElePHPant to the core members as a belated christmas present. See the happy people and their ElePHPant family below:
