  I just returned from vacation and realized, that the PHP Weekender (the free-of-charge workshop weekend for PHP enthusiasts, organized by the [http//phpugdo.de PHP Usergroup Dortmund]) has 90 verified, registered attendees so far. This is really cool, we never expected such a huge number of signups! Anyway, the PHP Weekender starts on upcoming Saturday, October 7th. • PHP Weekender reaches 50 attendee mark (en)

  Today the PHP Weekender (our 2-day, 2-track, free-of-charge, PHP event in Dortmund) reached the 50 attendee mark (we only count attendees who verified their email address, yet, else we have almost 60 now). It is a great feeling for us to see how many people are interested. Since we are at the university, we have enough space left to get some more attendees in, but beware, space is already getting rare... So take your heels and sign up for a place at the PHP Weekender, because Dortmund is on PHP! :) [Read full post…]

• Qmail and PHPs mail() function (en)

  While working with the eZ Mail component, for sending some emails comfortably, I noticed some issue with my Qmail installation. With some email accounts that received the emails, the headers were broken and had double line break characters, so the complete email was broken. That (weirdly) happened only with some servers (e.g. Gmail), while my own server handeled the emails gracefully. [Read full post…]

  It's been a good month, since the PHP Usergroup Dortmund asked for feedback on the idea of a PHP introduction workshop in Dortmund. Because of the huge masses of interessted people, we expanded the idea and are now going to make a 2 day, 2 track PHP introduction weekend, including 2 workshops and a lot of interessting sessions about topics like "XML handling", "Enterprise PHP", "SOA" and "Shell scripting.   Kore just returned from his Canada vacation and gave me a hand-signed copy of the book he co-authored, "Exploring PHP" - "Von Insidern lernen". Although I did not read it, yet, I'd like to recommend it to you, since I think to know the authors good enough to believe they write good books. The book is (beside others) written by my friends Markus Nix, Sandro Groganz, Kore Nordmann, Stephan Schmidt and Christian Wenz, all of them well-known experts from the PHP community.   As I posted a few days ago, I was (and still am) very upset, that phpfreaks.com still aggregated my content through the feed of phpdeveloper.org. While I appreciate that phpdeveloper.org aggregates my content, I dislike the way phofreaks.com does it (with adding ads to my literal words). [Read full post…]
