schlitt.info - php, photography and private stuff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :Author: Tobias Schlitt :Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2013 08:35:38 +0200 :Copyright: CC by-nc-sa =========== Open Source =========== - Wahooo, I have Gentoo! :) Although I could not realize my plan to install Gentoo during the weekend (because I had to recover my server from a rootkit, but that's another, much more painful, story), I managed it by now. :) - A decade of PHP The language we all love more and more over the years turns 10. Following the example of Zak I want to thank all those brave guys and girls behind PHP. I've neither been with PHP since it's birth, nor since it's so early ours, but I've enjoyed its greatnesses (and sometimes hated its bugs) for more than a half of its life. - WTF: What argument to prohibit GPL?? That's really something that makes me more than angry. If someone really has a problem with open source (maybe he wants to sell his software and feels threatened by high quality open source products), I accept that he tries to prohibit that. But WTF is that for an argument, that the GPL violates the "Clayton Antitrust Act" (US law) in dictating fixed prices for software? - I love WiFi! I really love it: I'm currently sitting around in a car repair shop and have to wait for about 2 hours for my car to be repaired. Dead time you think? Not really, since a T-Online-Hostspot is available. :) I wish there would be WiFi all around the world... And maybe even a bit cheaper! ;) - Charge for Linuxtag entrance The Linuxtag e.V. recently announced that for this years Linuxtag a charge will be have to paid for entrance. One day will cost 15,- €, 2 days 25,- € and all 3 days 35,- €. Members of the open source community should be granted free entrance, in the way, that the exhibiting projects will receive a certain amount of free tickets. The organizers of Linuxtag explain their decision for an entrance charge inside an open letter (German) to the open source community. - Moving to Dortmund Over the last weekend, I completly refurbished my ne appartment in Dortmund and on upcoming Saturday I will move there. I'm pretty much looking forward to that. Because of the bunch of preperations to do, I will not have that much time for open source stuff until April 8th. - Today it was 1111111111 Today the Unix time reached a historical value: 1111111111, which is exactly 1:58:31. A nice one, I guess. - Call for protest: Against software patents -2- I recently updated my anti software patents demo page (see here) in respect to the newest incidents. - Going to Quebec I recently received the acception for my proposal for the PHP Conference Quebec 2005. I will give a double session (some kind of workshop) on PEAR and how to use it. I'm very sold to be part of that conference, since I've never been to Kanada before. :) - Happy new year! To all you PHP lovers and all you other geeks out there! :)
