schlitt.info - php, photography and private stuff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :Author: Tobias Schlitt :Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2013 08:35:38 +0200 :Copyright: CC by-nc-sa ================================= Blog - Open Source - schlitt.info ================================= - I like some peoples attitude... This moring someone queried me on IRCNet: - Thoughts on trackback spam It's been a long while since I worked on my PEAR package Services_Trackback, mainly because I was much too busy with work and university. Nevertheless I made up my mind about how to solve the problem of the so-called trackback spam. In email environments people search for a solution to spam since email was invented and by now, no satisfactory solution was found (AFAIK, please correct me, if I'm wrong, I would be thrilled). Approaches here include complicated techniques like heuristic algorithms and easy ones like grey-listing, as well as sender identification (which is useless by now, since no unique standard exists and almost no program supports it). - New blog category: eZ I recently decided to create a new category to my blog, which is dedicated to eZ systems related topics. I know, my frequency on this (especially eZ components) related stuff was quite high in the past weeks and having all those posts ending up in my "PHP" feed was maybe a bit too much. Therefore, all eZ related posts will now be marked by the new "eZ" category and when I consider the post important for other categories (like "PHP" or "Community related"), I will add those additionally. - Software patents in Europe My friend Zak remindes us, that this topic is still dangerous, so keep eyes and ears open! The devil is not banned, yet... - eZ Components birthday cake Although we already celebrated this event last Wednesday in Germany, I feel I should post a photo of Kore's and my fabulous birthday cake for the eZ components 1.0 release: - We go stable: eZ components 1.0 2 weeks after our release candidate, I am very proud that we released eZ components 1.0 today. - "emerge" eZ components Sebastian announced that eZ components are now available in Gentoo's portage system. This adds one more posibility for you to install the components. So, we now have 3 methods in place (if you are a lucky Gentoo user), of which the new one is the most comfortable: - Back from Norway Norway is a somewhat strange country. When I got there - 2 weeks ago to work with Amos, Derick, Fred and Ray on the eZ components - it had the expected amount of snow. A few days later, there was nothing anymore. We had positive celsius values and the weather was really crappy... until Monday. Since then it has been snowing all the time and yesterday we left when it looked like this: - Abject "sponsored link" practice on PHPFreaks (update -2-) I still recieve lot's of comments on this issue, which all have basically the same content, affirming my opinion. The most common sense is, that abusing the content created by somebody else to put ads into it (in the way it is done, by modifying the content) is a real shame and has to be considered equal with spam. Today an anonymouse reader pointed out, that they actually violate the OPL, under which the PHP manual is provided. The OPL says "The modified version must be labeled as such." and "The person making the modifications must be identified and the modifications dated.". Both points seem not being fulfilled on that site. - Early bird catches the worm - eZ components workshop I just noticed that we offer an early-bird-discount for all of our trainings. This obviously includes the eZ components workshop I will be giving on March 6th and 7th. If you book until 1 month before the course starts, you still save 10% of the workshop price. So take your heels and join me in March! :)
