schlitt.info - php, photography and private stuff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :Author: Tobias Schlitt :Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2013 08:35:38 +0200 :Copyright: CC by-nc-sa ================================= Blog - Open Source - schlitt.info ================================= - PHP Weekender reaches 50 attendee mark Today the PHP Weekender (our 2-day, 2-track, free-of-charge, PHP event in Dortmund) reached the 50 attendee mark (we only count attendees who verified their email address, yet, else we have almost 60 now). It is a great feeling for us to see how many people are interested. Since we are at the university, we have enough space left to get some more attendees in, but beware, space is already getting rare... So take your heels and sign up for a place at the PHP Weekender, because Dortmund is on PHP! :) - Zend PHP 5 Certification I finally added a button for being a "Zend Advisory Board Member" to my blog. I did not have the logo so far. - Qmail and PHPs mail() function While working with the eZ Mail component, for sending some emails comfortably, I noticed some issue with my Qmail installation. With some email accounts that received the emails, the headers were broken and had double line break characters, so the complete email was broken. That (weirdly) happened only with some servers (e.g. Gmail), while my own server handeled the emails gracefully. - PHPUGDO proudly presents: The PHP Weekender It's been a good month, since the PHP Usergroup Dortmund asked for feedback on the idea of a PHP introduction workshop in Dortmund. Because of the huge masses of interessted people, we expanded the idea and are now going to make a 2 day, 2 track PHP introduction weekend, including 2 workshops and a lot of interessting sessions about topics like "XML handling", "Enterprise PHP", "SOA" and "Shell scripting. - Some usage stats I just came across my website stats and found that the user agent allocation is quite interessting (August 2006): - Reading recommendation: "Exploring PHP" Kore just returned from his Canada vacation and gave me a hand-signed copy of the book he co-authored, "Exploring PHP" - "Von Insidern lernen". Although I did not read it, yet, I'd like to recommend it to you, since I think to know the authors good enough to believe they write good books. The book is (beside others) written by my friends Markus Nix, Sandro Groganz, Kore Nordmann, Stephan Schmidt and Christian Wenz, all of them well-known experts from the PHP community. - Comfortable PHP editing with VIM -5- More than a half year after my last "Comfortable PHP editing with VIM" post, I take up this series again, although I decided to let it die in January. Sadly I did not find any time by now, to extend PDV (the PHP Documentor for VIM plugin) further than it's version 1.0.1, which is available through vim.org and on my SVN. Anyway, I collected a lot of (at least for me) helpful VIM tips, which I'd like to share here: - Free eZ components sessions -2- [Update] I forgot that Wolfgang and me moved the dates for the sessions, because Wolfgang is on vacation and wants to take part in the sessions. Sorry for that! So, here are the correct dates: - Aggregating and stealing content Back from vacation I found an interessting article via Kore, which deals with the problem of content aggregation, based on German law. The main sense is basically: "Someone who provides forgein content on the net without asking for a permission violates copyright. This results in entitlement for omission and damages. If the aggregated content is additonally provided with ads, the provider possibly incurs a penalty." Hopefully I translated all the law terms correctly. To avoid misunderstandings, I quote the original words in German: - Tool of the year: BitlBee Kore pointed me to a tool called BitlBee. Imagine that I am currently connected to 4 IRC networks and I am using Gaim for Jabber and ICQ. While Gaim is quite satisfying, it disturbs, that you have 2 communication clients online. Beside that, it disturbs me, that I have 1 tab per conversation open in gaim. On my server already runs a bouncer to allow me to keep me connected t my networks while I'm offline with my client.
