I recently decided to create a new category to my blog, which is dedicated to eZ systems related topics. I know, my frequency on this (especially eZ components) related stuff was quite high in the past weeks and having all those posts ending up in my "PHP" feed was maybe a bit too much. Therefore, all eZ related posts will now be marked by the new "eZ" category and when I consider the post important for other categories (like "PHP" or "Community related"), I will add those additionally. Jakob Westhoff (one of my usergroup fellows) created a tiny but very efficient bash script to avoid a big annoyance: I'm using "sudo" on my work station to not have the need to completly switch to root for administrative tasks. Still I usually forget to type "sudo" when I intend to edit a file with is not writeable for my current user. I asume people with similar environments know that problem. WI ([W]riteable checker for v[I]m) wraps around VIM on startup and checks the file permissions. If you may not edit the file, WI asks you if you want to start VI through sudo or quit. This morning I finally realized my plan, which I had in mind since I saw the announcement of it. I bought an iPod Nano. It's the first MP3 player I ever own and by now I'm really sure, it is worth it's price. After taking a reallife look at the Nano last week in San Francisco and digging into lots of testimonials and reviews last night I could not resist any longer. One quote from a review had burned into my mind, which sounded (not exactly) like "When I first saw the iPod Nano, I felt that this must be the ultimate iPod of the iPods...". [Read full post…]
I recently uploaded a new version of PDV (phpDocumentor for VIM), which allows you to comfortable generate documentation for your PHP classses, functions, methods and attributes. The new version fixes some issues with the usage of tabs in your code (since I only use spaces, I did not notice these), as well as some smaller bugs. Enjoy! :) [Read full post…]

PDV (phpDocumentor for Vim) ran into the top 10 PHP Vim scripts on vim.org within 2 from it's first publishing... and I did not even vote once... that's a bit scary, isn't it? [Read full post…]
I just realized that I missed to show some examples for my phpDocumentor for Vim plugin. So, here they are: [Read full post…]
It's nearly 4 month ago now, since I last blogged about my .vimrc (the main Vim config file) and the recent enhancements I added to it. This time, I go a step further as in the last 3 parts: I wrote my first own Vim script. :) Beside that there are as usual some other great enhancements and tips I collected over the past 4 month and I already have an idea of how to proceed and what I need more. But first, I'd like to give a brief changelog between version 1.3 and the last version: [Read full post…]
I personally hated them for years now and never really managed to build one on my own or find satisfying information on the net (especially regarding widescreen resolutions). You know, XFree86/Xorg modelines really suck. Thanks to Matthias Hopf (who I met on Linuxtag) and Jakob Westhoff (who reminded me today) I now about the tool I ever wanted to have: $ gtf. :) [Read full post…]
