- You never stop learning...

  ... at least when you are using Linux! I noticed that especially yesterday
  again, when I ran the small bash line to check my temperature over and over
  again, after trying to set my fan-speed manually to maximum (so, I wanted to
  check if temperature of my CPU goes down). Jakob looked kinda scared at me
  and asked, why I did not simply use:

- Check your Thinkpads temperatures

  Jakob and me just wrote a small bash line that checks the current
  temperature of the IBM Thinkpad T43p notebook and prints it nicely. Hope we
  guessed the value meanings correctly.

- The Gnome Splash Block

  Found while searching how to place the icons inside a custom gnome splash
  screen. The Gnome Splash Block.

- Blog updates

  I just found 10 minutes to clean up my blog a bit. I switched the theme from
  my old brownish, dark theme to a nice grey-blueish one by Sebastian Bergmann
  (thanks!). It now looks much friendlier. Beside that, I updated my sidebar
  plugins and added the new eZ components release feed. Cool, now I only have
  to make up my new website, for which a little tool is lurking on my hard
  disc for a couple of months now... Hope I will find time after my exam phase
  end of July.

- Welcome Serendipity 1.0!

  My favorite weblogging software Serendipity was just released in version
  1.0. Thanks a lot to Garvin Hicking and all other contrinbutors for their
  efforts to build that great piece of PHP software! Congratulations for
  becoming stable, S9Y! Btw., the new design of the website is really cool! :)

- Beagle searching Mozilla Thunderbird mails

  Thanks to Jakob I found a patch (look at the very end of the page) which
  enables Beagle to index Thunderbird emails. I created a Gentoo ebuild for me
  personally to support this. I just made a TAR ball of it, so you can use it,
  too. To make it running, do the following steps:

  Since a few days Jakob Westhoff - a good friend, university and usergroup
  collegue of mine - has a blog. I convinced him to set one up, because he
  produces a lot of geeky things, which by now stayed on his harddisc.

- ICQ spam sucks

  Since 1996 I'm using ICQ as an instant messaging service. While I was
  satisfied with it all the time, I'm now getting into real trouble with ICQ
  spam. Blocking unwanted messages from users that are not on your buddy list
  is not a problem (at least in Gaim, although this tools seems to forget the
  privacy settings now and then). But lately I receive constant masses of
  authorization request spam. It's a real annoyance to get about 50-200 of
  these messages per day and to reject all of them manually. I would be really
  near to leaving the ICQ network, if there weren't so many of my non-geek
  friends on ICQ.

- Moving

  No, not myself, but my server. Until now I ow a 1und1 Root Server L, which I
  bought more than 2 years ago. Now that 1und1 offers a new generation of
  servers, I decided to switch to a 64-bit machine. My old server had a
  Celeron processor, 256 MB RAM and 20 GB HD, which could not really handle my
  spam protection anymore. The new one is an Athlon 64 3000+, has 1 GB RAM and
  2 80 GB SATA discs, which I run as a soft raid.

- Will Oracle buy Zend?

  I just stumbled over this rumor. The article states, that Oracle is planning
  to take over up to 3 open source companies, including JBoss and Zend. Let's
  see, where this leads...
