Fullo made an interview with me, during phpDay in Bari, about Open Source, Web 2.0, PHP and eZ. Also it's on the Italian OSSBlog website, it is written in English. [Read full post…]
On Thursday, May 25th is the so called towel day. Towel day is a tribute to Douglas Adams, the author of fantastic science fiction literature like "A hitchhikers guide to the galaxy". Towel day means that you just take a towel with you through the day to present your respect to Douglas Adams. So, don't forget your towel on Thursday! :) [Read full post…]
Sitting at the Malpensa airport in Milano and waiting for my connection flight to D?sseldorf I seize the chance to work a bit. The conference in Bari was really great. I meat a lot of interesting and especially very nice people. My talk about the our enterprise PHP platform eZ components went quite well and I received a lot of feedback. Since I don't know much italien (as the attendees of my talk will probably have noticed), I skipped the afternoon talks at the phpDay (sorry Zeev ;-P) and used the chance to lay down on the beach for a bit. I even managed to go swimming in the sea. Really great. What I enjoyed most in Bari was actually the food. Italians really know how to make really good dinners. In my whole life I did not have that much anti pasti... ;) [Read full post…]
Yesterday I arrived here in Bari for the phpDay event (I will give an introductional talk about our PHP 5 library eZ components, soon). The trip was quite long, because I had to go to Milano first and then had another flight to Bari, but with about 4 hrs waiting in Milano. Anyway, I'm here now. After a fantastic dinner last night (man, _real_ italian food is soooooo delicious!) we have perfect weather here, today (32C and beautiful blue sky). A real pita that I forgot my digicam at home... But Fullo (one of the organizers of phpDay) is luckily taking photos... So, of to my session now. Greetings to rainy Germany and rainy Norway! ;-P [Read full post…]
In the past months, the term "Web 2.0" has been pushed as if it was a cool new Internet. Sorry, guys and girls, but this is bullshit. "Web 2.0" is the mis-term of the current and the past year. The "Web", if it ever existed, is a medium of several markup languages (especially HTML), which allows to provide information in a hyper-linked way over the Internet. It does not matter, which way you choose to provide this information (XTML, SVG or plain text). Beside that, "Web 2.0" seems to talk about rich-client interfaces over the web. Hello? XUL is quite old, ActiveX is even older and if you look at Citrix, you can provide "real" applications over the web. [Read full post…]
Thanks to Jakob I found a patch (look at the very end of the page) which enables Beagle to index Thunderbird emails. I created a Gentoo ebuild for me personally to support this. I just made a TAR ball of it, so you can use it, too. To make it running, do the following steps: [Read full post…]
I'll be giving a free online session about our enterprise PHP library in cooperation with dynamic-webpages.de on May 26th, 15:00-16:30. My friend Arnaud has developed a PEAR proposal for the renewal of the PEAR Core-QA team. This group (to which I still belong) is dedicated to quality assurance questions in PEAR and was founded about 2 years ago. As it is in open source, most of the current members don't have much time any more to take account for their responsibilities (as it is with in the past months). [Read full post…]
I was invited to join the phpDay in Bari, Italy, this Mai. Since I think that Bari in May must be beautiful, I accepted to go there from May 19th until May 21st. I'm pretty much looking forward to this event, since it means to get to know a lot of new people. If you are located in Italy and are interested on PHP, it would be a pleasure, if you join my talk about eZ components there. [Read full post…]
