This really looks interesting. CPU consuming as well, though.
Link to commentpear initially gave some errors about memory_limit when installing, but a slight modification (adding -d memory_limit=32M to pear script), I was a happy 3d php man.
By the way, you could create your CAPTCHA text using Image_3D :-)
