IBM takes over Zend
As IBM and Zend announced in the early morning hours, both signed a buyout contract yesterday. Irving Wladawsky-Berger (IBM vicepresident of technology and strategy): "We are now taking the consequences of Sun's behavior to leave Java closed source. The power of open source has been proven by years now if Sun is to narrow-minded to see the importance of open source, we have to select another partner.".
IBM stated, that PHP5 will become the main plattform for at first all web and network related producst. For that, PHP will be integrated into IBM Websphere until August 2003. Zeev Suraski from Zend: "IBM is an important strategic partner for us. Now we are able to compete with Java and .NET.". Irving Wladawsky-Berger sees even much more potential for PHP in IBM. For that, it will be integrated into the Lotus Domino/Notes series and will replace the proprietary script language used, whith Lotus Notes 7.0.
Shortly after this announcement, the PHP community announced some seriouse decisions on recently discussed problems. PHP will now replace all under_score_function names with studlyCaps writing. Andi Gutmans: "All major languages use studly caps for their naming convention, so PHP has to fit in this schema." The community itself introduced some more changes.

PHP april fools...
1st of April 2004 get's to it's end and I guess it's time, to summarize the recent April fools a bit. Not that I think anyone in the world believes in them, but some were quite funny:

Prvoaprilske Å¡ale
Da li sam ja prespavao deo ili su prvo-aprilske Å¡ale ove godine bile slabije nego proÅ¡le? Koje su uspele da vas nasamare? PHP radikalno prelazi na StudlyCaps imenovanje funkcija Već jedno vreme u "PHP krugovima" traje rasprava oko naÄ?ina imenovanja funkcija. Ja liÄ?no koristim meÅ¡ani oblik (znaÄ?i i function_name i FunctionName) zavisno od "raspoloženja" mada se trudim da imenujem funkcije na isti naÄ?in unutar projekta. Å ta god odluÄ?ili, uvek će biti protivnika takvoj odluci, a prelazak će svakako biti postepen... MeÄ‘utim, ovo je bila interesantna prvoaprilska Å¡ala, naroÄ?ito deo oko kompatibilnosti: if (!function_exists('array_count')) { function array_count($a) { return arrayCount($a); } } IBM preuzima Zend Dobro, ovo je već malo manje verovatno... Ali da se informacija o preuzimanju XIMIAN-a pojavila prvog aprila, mnogi bi je isto shvatili na isti naÄ?in. Zaposlite se u Google-ovom Copernicus Centru - na Mesecu! Google će do 2007 godine formirati postrojenje na Mesecu pa su krenuli sa zapoÅ¡ljavanjem! Interesantno... Google GMail Da li je ovo baÅ¡ prvoaprislka Å¡ala ili ne? Na interentu su razliÄ?ita miÅ¡ljenja, a ja garantujem da jeste. Google naime puÅ¡ta u rad GMail servis koji pruža uslugu webmail-a sa 1GB prostora za Ä?uvanje poÅ¡te, a umesto sortiranja koristiće se pretraživanje! Sajt nije dostupan, a Google-ov snimak stranice je dostupan ovde. Dalje, saopÅ¡tenje vezano za novi servis je na zvaniÄ?nim stranicama Google-a. Pored ovoga, na ES forumima se pojavilo nekoliko Å¡ala. Objavljivanje Slackware-a u verziji 10, moj "pokuÅ¡aj" - Verat koji je zakupio servere na ev1servers.net, kao i par dana ranije objavljeni oglas za posao na kome se može odliÄ?no zaraditi!...
