A little bit belated, but as promised during the session, I just uploaded my slides from the talk 6 essential PHP development tools in 60 minutes. Since there is so much to say I actually managed to get 4,5 tools through and for all of these it felt to be too few time. I think I should provide a workshop for the next conference

On November 20th dynamic-webpages.de will start with the first "Professional PHP" online training. This series of online sessions offers you "24 hours of PHP knowledge, from professionals, to professionals". Topics covered in this series of talks are:

Several speakers will take care about the different topics, among those are Kore Nordmann (Regex, Images and PHPUnit), Christian Wenz (Security, XML, Webservices), Stephan Schmidt for the OO and patterns section and other community known experts. I myself will present the topics "Xdebug" and "eZ Components".

All talks will last about 2 hours (possibly a bit longer) and will take place on a dedicated day so you are not too filled up with knowledge afterwards. The sessions are presented in German language using a professional online training system, that allows you to interact with the presenter and other attendees in writing and speaking.

Derick has posted a small blurb about his article on Xdebug in the php|architect magazine.

I have to admit, that I only used echo and var_dump for debugging purposes before, until Derick convinced me in Norway to install Xdebug. Just by installing and activating it you get really nice backtraces for every error occuring in your scripts, which is a huge enhancement in itself.

php|architect kindly allowed Derick to publish his article (15 pages!) as a PDF on the net. It's a really good resource to get started with Xdebug. I can only recommend to read it and try the debugger! Really cool! :)
