Image_Text 0.5.0 (beta)

I recently rolled release 0.5.0 (beta stadium) of Image_Text (your tool for comfortable handling of GD texts). This release does not add any new features, nor fixes any bug, since there did not occur any. The API is not fixed for the release branch. I will obviously add some more features (e.g. shadows) later on, but since I currently have no time for that, the beta release should bring more stability through user testing. For that, I'd beg everyone to install Image_Text using "pear install Image_Text" or "pear upgrade Image_Text" (do not forget to set your preferred_state to "beta" before) and simply play around a bit with it's example. Or, if you have use for it, simply integrate it into your project. :) Thanks for every test!

It's so easy...

... to use texts in images.

Especially, when you are using <a href="http://pear.php.net/Image_Text">Image_Text</a> in it's new version <b>0.4</b>. ;) As I promised (ok, the timespan was a bit beside the real world, but that's the way in cyberspace) I helped <a href="http://pear.php.net/user/neufeind">Stefan N.</a> fixing Image_Graph= and during this he helped me debugging <a href="http://pear.php.net/Image_Text">Image_Text</a>, which was pretty usefull for both, I guess. Hence I'm still in alpha stadium with <a href="http://pear.php.net/Image_Text">Image_Text</a> I will suggest to Stefan to depend on this specific version with the next version of Image_Graph=, since I can still not promise that the API is 100% fixed. Anyway, if there are changes to come, these will be definitly be no major changes.

You can find a list of todo's I plan to realize before I get into beta stadium with <a href="http://pear.php.net/Image_Text">Image_Text</a> in the extended part of this article.

The extended entry contains a list of further improvements until beta stage and a long time view (this should be a kind of roadmap).

The problem with CVS tree of PEAR

Es everyone should know there is a official PHP CVS repository, where PEAR is a module. Here is a small overview, what the average PEAR developer has to do, if he likes/has to use CVS with his package. The problem The structure of the PEAR directory (locally on the users maschine) looks similar to this: �48� While the developement structure on CVS looks like this: �49� I think, everybody simply realizes, where the problem is. Normaly one would expet to have the same directory structure in both environment, to check out a complete developement from CVS. My solution for that: Change your projects CVS structure like this: �50� You now have to add the pathes to your projects directories in your local repository to the include_path, eg. by doing this: �51� Maybe anyone can use this for easier developement.

Added sources to CVS

After several people asked my to have the sources of my PEAR packages inside the official CVS I decided to torture myself with CVS and added all of my PEAR projects. Performance tuning for Image_Text

Several features were still missing in Image_Text. While a feature and realization chat session Pierre-Alain Joye had a deeper look at the class and applied some very important tuning patches. Thanks for the great support, Pierre! The missinge features (in detail: measurize for rotations, alpha, tiles,...) are on developement now. Called for votes in pear-dev about Image_Text and Image_Tools

Today I send a call for votes to the pear-dev list regarding the packages Image_Text (comfortable handling of single and multiline texts in GD2 images) and Image_Tools (should become a collection of static methods, handling common image operations).
